Writer Jeri Dayle - Jeri Dayle

Jeri Dayle is a writer mom, or should I say a mom writer? I worked in advertising both full and part-time while raising my family, jobs that took twenty-two years. Now I am freelancing while shepherding the last two through the end of high school and off to college.

I am also a big animal lover and work as a volunteer for rescue groups and causes here in my part of New York. These include Rational Animal, For our Friends, and Loving Touch Rescue. I wrote a memoir about a Rational Animal Event that is now part of their on-line blog, and I helped Loving Touch organize and run a fundraiser known as Poets for Pets.

I learned from an early affinity with Emily Dickinson about how much a writer's greatest loves influence his/her writing. That is why you'll find so many of my published pieces are about mine: children, dogs, and wildlife. And then there is crafting.

Striving to entertain a seven-year-old with limited resources produced crafts that gave rise to my first published book: Sock Crafts, Random House, 1999iii.camden.lib.nj.us:90/search~S29. I love to craft myself, and make beaded jewelry, bookmarks, and other items in my spare time, often using recycled materials. You'll find some of my craft passions here in my suite articles.

In my career as a freelance writer, I have worked both sporadically and on a regular beat for a publishing group known as Davler-Media. They put out a diversity of guides, including Big Apple Parent, Queens Parent, and other parenting resource editionswww.nymetroparent.com in the NY Metro area.

While working with them, I have written about childhood diseases, theater, same-sex parenting, education, sports, childhood development and many other topics. I also interviewed authorities on learning disabilities and raising drug-free kids. You can read some of these at

Writing for Suite 101 is a great way to share what I've learned about parenting, family crafting, and veggie good eating habits. I hope you like reading my work on these topics as much as I have enjoyed being a part of the Suite.

PS If credentials impress you, then you might want to know I was one of the first graduates of Hofstra University's special Creative Writing program, which blended English Lit, Writing Workshops and Publishing basics.

I don't want to own up to what year that was. % : )
